The Electrolux Company has been a leader in household and kitchen appliances for over 90 years. They are well known for their innovative products that are based on sleek design and consumer input. One of the most interesting developments that came from Electrolux is the modern vacuum cleaner, which was invented by the Electrolux founder in 1908 and was the reason the company became successful. He had seen a very large, expensive, and clunky machine that was the predecessor to the modern vacuum. He knew that if he could make the machine smaller, lighter, and cheaper, he could sell one to every house in the country and around the world.

This idea proved to be true and after the first World War, vacuum cleaners and refrigerators that were manufactured by Electrolux were, in fact, being sold all over the world. The founder of Electrolux was not an engineer or an inventor, but he was an amazing salesman. He was the originator of the home sales model. His sales people would go door-to-door, demonstrating the vacuum cleaner and allowing people to purchase it on an installment plan.

Sales started to skyrocket, so much so that the manufacturing plants could not keep up with demand. This led to the rapid expansion of the company and several manufacturing plants being built all over Europe and the United States.

The 1935 release of a streamlined refrigerator by Sears Roebuck started a fad that continues to this day. Electrolux jumped on to this streamlined look with their vacuums in order to keep up with the modern aesthetic. From that point on the way kitchen appliances looked was just as important as how they functioned.

This is still a feature that Electrolux uses when creating their new designs. They are on the cutting edge of design, function, and kitchen appliances that keep Electrolux at the front of the home appliance market.
