As you warm up your Weber BBQ grill, you ever wonder where these rotisseries got their start? Who has ever thought about such an idea as a round grill with dome lid?
Well, wonder no more. Here is the story of Weber BBQ grills.
About 50 years ago, George Stephan, an employee Weber Brothers Metal works, to work daily welding metal buoys for the coast guard. When he went home he loved, however, shines its open fixed cooking grate and cook for her family. As he roasted, he would believe that there must be a better way to roast than on flat, open surface of his grill frame. Then he had an idea that would forever change the process of broiling food. George Stephan welded his passion for roasting food with its flexible welding career.
He used the bottom half of the bow for a cooking base and the upper half to the lid and set up the Weber barbecue grill. He added a tripod to its bottom, so that it would stand all on its own. Later, after having trouble keep the fire lit, he added three holes on its top. After he was satisfied with this Setup, he began, finally, to sell it in hardware stores. At that time it was called Georges BBQ boiler. In 1952 created George grill rift within the Weber Brothers factory. In the late last, he purchased the Weber Brothers factory, becomes the sole owner of the site and changed the name to Weber-Stephen products co.
Cost of Weber barbecue grill in its early days was $ 36 more than the open, flat design framework. Despite the price difference he successfully sold his cooking product. The sale of this product continued to grow in the next several years. In the 1970s, was around 800,000 sold each year.
Then, in 1985, introduced Weber-Stephan gas grills. In 1989 opened the first Weber Grill Restaurant in Wheeling, Illinois, serving food from Weber BBQ grills. Then, in 1999, he opened his restaurant in Lombard, Illinois, followed by yet another opening in Schaumburg Illinois in 2005 and in Indianapolis in 2007, all serving food from this roasting framework.
It has now been nearly 50 years since the creation of this fantastic rotisserie. Many improvements and changes have been made to this, but the basic outdoor set-up basically look the same. People in 30 different countries enjoy food grilled on this broiling frames. Many other restaurants, in addition to their own, has also purchased and began to use Weber BBQ grill to cook for their customers.
