Every election year, candidates from all parties speak about American dependence on foreign oil. Promises are made every day that contend a vote for a certain candidate will result in energy independence for the United States. While there are many different ways to go about this however, more and more consumers are taking matters into their own hands and installing solar systems in their residential homes, summer houses, and vacation homes.
Many American states provide consumer tax breaks and other incentives to make this conversion. Coast to coast, thousands of Americans are finding ways to generate the financial resources to make the solar systems conversion. Installing this technology translates into tax incentives, vanishing electrical bills, and sometimes even checks from local or regional electric companies who purchase surplus energy from solar powered establishments.
Low-income individuals and families who cannot afford this technology are also reaping the benefits. Apartment homes, businesses and workplaces, and other government buildings around the nation are finding ways to decrease energy bills and convert to solar systems for energy needs. The costs saved from energy that does not require coal to be burned can be transferred to lower consumer costs for an array of public services and private industries.
The environmental advantages are also astounding. Less burning coal means less carbon dioxide in the atmosphere,which could slow down global warming and the overall heating of the earth. Coupled with the financial savings that this technology brings, more and more Americans are making the change. While natural water and wind energy also serve immense purposes and have their own compelling advantages, solar power technology is quickly finding its way into the private homes of consumers.
The reason consumers are choosing solar over other forms of alternative energy sources is that the technology is made affordable enough to mount on the roofs of individual homes that can draw from a constant source. Unlike wind-powered technology that requires regular flow of wind, solar technologies draw from our sun, the largest continuous energy structure in our solar system. This fact alone makes solar powered energy much more attractive to the commercial market and for consumers tired of dealing with coal-based energy, electric bills, and the negative environmental affects coal-based electricity brings.
As these technologies continue to penetrate the consumer market, prices are likely to fall in line with computer boards and microchips. If enough investment is made in the technology, the price of these systems might be able to fall so dramatically that coal-based energy resources are rendered nearly obsolete, or are only utilized in large projects or in crisis situations. As the continuous drawing of energy from the sun shows its positive effects to consumers around the world, markets will eventually follow suit and find a way to deliver the service to the masses in the same way cell phones, telephone wire, and indeed, the light bulb, has found its way into each American home.
