Because of their quality standards, design and materials, InSinkErator food waste disposals can last for years and years. And when you consider their "We come to you" warranty, your decision becomes pretty easy.
This just leaves you with having to choose which model ISE disposal to purchase. This is where I can help. As a former Master Plumbing contractor for 20 plus years, I've installed hundreds of InSinkErator garbage disposals. It simply boiled down to what my customers could afford and which model would best suit their needs.
So which model should you choose?
There are two ISE lines today: the Badger and the Revolution series. The Badgers are popular for builder's spec homes, for folks who are on a budget and those who just don't use a garbage disposal very often (perhaps singles, newlyweds or retirees). You should consider the demand and the amount of cooking done in order to choose the correct model to comfortably handle it. The Badger series offer 3 models to choose from. ISE also has 5 models in the full-line Evolution series which are covered on my website below.
How do the Badgers compare? Let's take a look...
The Badger 1 is the least expensive model offered and typically costs between $60-160 and is their base model. Perfect for spec builders and the budget-conscious. It comes with a 1/3 HP motor and 1 year warranty.
The InSinkErator Badger 5 is the most popular economical model that I sold, hands down. It's a great unit for folks who want the most "bang for the buck" and for couples who do not have children or entertain dinner guests very often. Its price range is between $75-190 and it comes with a ½ HP motor and a 2 year warranty. I sold these like hot cakes and never had a problem.
Third is the more powerful Badger 5XP. This model runs between $100-240 and sports a ¾ HP motor and 3-year warranty. This is a great little machine for budget-conscious, larger families or those who enjoy entertaining dinner guests on occasion.
Common features found with all Badgers
All disposals in this model series are made out of galvanized steel, whereas the Evolution series are stainless steel. This is a something to consider if you live in an area with corrosive water. They all come with the patented, durable Dura-Drive® Induction Motors for superior performance. All warranties come with the exclusive "We come to you" in-home service and all ISE products are made right here in the USA. Every InSinkErator garbage disposal also comes with the Quick Lock® Sink Mounting system for ease of installation and reliable sink mounting.
In summary.
Based on my experience, if the Badger series is more your style and budget and usage is moderate, why not shoot for the middle? The InSinkErator Badger 5 is a top seller and number 1 in my book. Hopefully, with a good overview along with the price ranges you can now make a smart buying decision. But before you start, visit my site below to compare in more detail, look over the Evolution series, gather some great tips and learn how to get the most out of your disposal (an unbiased guide from one in the know plus a surprise or two along the way). Take care and happy grinding!
