Infill building is defined as construction of new homes or businesses on existing lots that have been left vacant as the surrounding community was developed. Infill building benefits a community as a whole because it reduces urban sprawl, provides a new look to an older neighborhood, helps attract new residents and businesses to areas that they wouldn't necessarily be considering, and helps reduce the strain on services provided by a community.
